Two Portsmouth women charged after fight in car

PORTSMOUTH — Here are highlights from the Portsmouth Police log from over the past week.

Wednesday, June 8

Kyle E. Emond, 40, of 2787 East Main Road, Apt. 1, was charged shortly after midnight with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said they stopped Mr. Emond’s vehicle on East Main Road near Sprague Street because it had left the lane of travel, and that one headlight was out.

Amanda P. Lora, 33, of 6 Admiralty Drive, Apt. 6-12, Middletown, was charged at 12:47 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police stopped her vehicle on West Main Road for leaving the lane of travel, said police, who noted the car was traveling 27 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Philip L. Clement, 50, of 550 Park Ave., was charged at 8:49 p.m. with felony assault with a dangerous weapon or substance. Police made the arrest after responding to Tremblay’s Cafe in Island Park for a report of an assault in progress. After speaking to witnesses, police determined the victim was seated at the bar when Mr. Clement came in and attempted to strike him with the bat. The victim was able to block the first strike with his bar stool, but Mr. Clement kept hitting him and at one point struck one of the victim’s legs, according to police. Onlookers went to restrain Mr. Clement, who then tried to open a buck knife from his pant pocket, police said. Witnesses were able to take the knife off the suspect, police said. A patrol officer who entered the bar with his pistol drawn said he observed Mr. Clement — with the bat still in his hands — on the floor at the rear of the bar, with the victim laying on his legs in an attempt to restrain him. Mr. Clement refused to relinquish the bat but finally did so when the officer administered three knee strikes to his mid-section, police said. Brandon L. Latreniere, 24, of 106 Russo St., Providence, was charged at 10:02 p.m. with being a fugitive from justice, a felony, and resisting arrest. Mr. Latreniere, who had a full extradition warrant out of Georgia, was identified by police at Tremblay’s Cafe earlier that night during their arrest of Mr. Clement (above). Police said after Mr. Latreniere was escorted out of the bar, he started running southbound on Park Avenue, despite verbal commands to stop. After several warnings an officer discharged a Taser, which struck Mr. Latreniere in the mid-section. Police said he refused medical treatment.

Adrian Diaz, 29, of 27 Paine St., Roslindale, Mass., was charged with driving on a suspended license just before 2 p.m. Police stopped his car on East Main Road near Clear View Avenue because its inspection sticker had expired, police said.

Saturday, June 11

Two women were arrested for domestic assault at 1:13 a.m. after they argued and fought inside their car as they were coming home from Providence. Police reported to the area of Boyd’s Lane and Valhalla Drive at 12:44 a.m. for a disturbing-the-peace complaint. Police said they arrived to find Ashley M. Wilson, 29, of 317 Riverside St., standing outside a car parked on the side of Boyd’s Lane, and she was screaming and crying. According to police, Ms. Wilson said she had been driving the car when she and a passenger, Breanne C. Humphries, 35, of the same address, started arguing and physically assaulting each other.

Austin J. Lake, 21, of 50 Opechee Drive, Bristol, was charged at 10:18 p.m. with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police found his disabled car, with heavy front-end damage, parked near Teddy’s Beach after receiving a report that it had struck a guardrail on Boyd’s Lane earlier. According to police, Mr. Lake initially denied being the driver, saying a friend had been behind the wheel but that he ran away before police arrived. Police said when Mr. Lake was asked how the car was damaged, he responded, “What damage?” After he was told the driver’s-side front tire was completely missing, Mr. Lake admitted to being the driver, police said.

Sunday, June 12

Justin D. Kelley, 20, of 28 Peck St., Swansea, was charged at 1:30 a.m. with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test. His car was stopped on Route 24 northbound near Freeborn Street because it had left the lane of travel, police said.

Police assisted in the seizure of marijuana plants that were found in the fields off Burma Road, near the Middletown line. Police from Middletown and the U.S. Navy escorted Portsmouth Police to the location, where a total of 21 marijuana plants in 16 large pots and three solo cups were found. Police could not determine the origin of the plants, which were seized as evidence.

Ainsley T. Randle, 43, of no permanent address, was charged at 6:50 p.m. with possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Police said they spotted Mr. Randle, who matched the description given by multiple witnesses of a man seen sleeping at Hunt Yacht Marine overnight, riding his bicycle in the area of West Main Road and Stringham Road. Mr. Randle said he had permission to use his employer’s boat as a temporary residence at the marina. While conducting a search of Mr. Randle, police said they found two bags of what was believed to be heroin in his right, side pocket.

Tuesday, June 14

Andrew M. Oliveira, 29, of 324 Wood St., Swansea, was charged at 2:52 a.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense), operating with a suspended license and vandalism with malicious injury to property. Police said they stopped the sedan Mr. Ollveira was driving on West Main Road near West Passage Drive because it was veering out of the lane of travel. Police said that when Mr. Oliveira was in a holding cell at the police station, he became irate and damaged the bench he was sitting on.
