Car crashes into building; police searching for suspect vehicle

Posted

The manager for the UPS store in the Maple Avenue Plaza was greeted with a troubling scene when he arrived for work on Monday morning, April 18.

The front of the store was badly damaged — evidence pointed to a car driven over the cement parking slab, over the sidewalk and into the front window and wall. The result was disastrous. The large glass window was shattered and the wooden wall was splintered.

The manager called police, and officers arrived on the scene shortly after 8 a.m. Investigators reportedly found a BMW emblem embedded into the smashed wood and sheetrock. The car hit the wall so hard, said police, that it left an imprint and paint exchange that showed a Massachusetts license plate. Officers wrote down some of the numbers from the plate that had been pressed into the wood.

Police said that it did not appear anyone had tried to gain entry into the build through the smashed window. Instead, it looked like the driver backed up as quickly as possible and drove away from the scene.

Police are still looking for additional information — including any eye-witness reports — that could help them track down the motorist at fault.

People with information should call police at 437-3937 or 437-3933.

It did not appear that the damage spread to the Yogo Crazy shop located next door to UPS.
