Virtual meeting in Barrington interrupted by hacker

Meeting marred by person screaming obscenities

Posted

Barrington police are investigating an incident that occurred during a town board's online meeting last week.

Town officials contacted police on Thursday, April 9, and reported that someone had hacked into the online meeting and began screaming obscenities. (It was not clear which board or commission's meeting had been interrupted by the hacker.)

Police said this incident and other similar situations are being handled by federal officials.

A number of Barrington boards and commissions are holding virtual meetings instead of in-person meetings because of concerns around the spread of the coronavirus.
