Warren is expected to hire a new town manager next week, three months after the town parted ways with former manager Jan Reitsma.

Warren Town Council President Joseph DePasquale said the council has selected one finalist for the position out of dozens of applications, but he declined to identify the person prior to a vote on the hiring, set for next Tuesday’s council meeting. Warren Town Planner Kate Michaud has been filling in as interim town manager since earlier this year.

"We have a strong candidate," Mr. DePasquale said. "Everything checks out and looks good."

Meanwhile, two Warren residents, Mr. Reitsma and former manager Thomas Gordon, are among four finalists for the vacant town administrator’s position in Tiverton.

Mr. Reitsma served as Warren Town Manager from 2015 until Dec. 31, 2017. He formerly led the state Department of Environmental Management, serving as its director from 1999 to 2003. He is a Brown University graduate and former private attorney specializing in planning, land use and environmental issues.

Mr. Gordon has a long history of public service in Warren, serving most recently as head of the Warren Housing Authority from January 2016 to March 2017. Prior to that, he served four years as Warren Town Manager and also spent 31 years on the Warren Police Department, retiring as chief.

Tiverton is seeking to replace former administrator Paul McGreevy, who spent six months on the job last year after the council declined to extend his six-month probationary contract in late December.
