A Warren man recently released after serving six years at the ACI in Cranston is back at the state prison, following his arrest this week on felony assault and breaking and entering charges.

Warren police arrested Joshua Pirri, 31, of Washington Street, at his home on Thursday, Dec. 20. Later the same day, Sixth Division District Court Judicial Officer Anthony Capraro ordered Mr. Pirri back to the ACI without bail as a probation violator. He is due to appear in court again on a pre-trial conference next April.

Mr. Pirri had just finished serving six years of a 20-year sentence, with 14 years suspended, for a string of breaking and entering and drug possession charges brought by Warren police in October 2011. At the time, police detectives determined that Mr. Pirri broke into several homes in and around Water Street and stole items, many of which were then sold on eBay by an associate. He was sentenced to 20 years in September 2012.

The new charge is similar to those old ones.

Police said that earlier this month, a Water Street man returned home to find a man running from his home. He chased him down Water Street until the suspect stopped, pulled a knife and threatened him, warning him not to call the police.

The victim, whose home was one of those burglarized seven years ago, contacted Warren authorities anyway, and after several days of investigation Warren police put out a warrant for Mr. Pirri’s arrest.
