Police: Man in possession of crystal meth

On Wednesday, Jan. 23, Barrington Police charged Stephen J. Carter, 35, of Warren, with possession of a controlled substance, and driving in possession of a controlled substance.

An officer on radar post near the Barrington River Bridge at about 2 a.m., allegedly spotted the vehicle Mr. Carter was driving roll through a stop sign.

The officer ordered the vehicle over to the side of the road and approached the driver's side window. Police said Mr. Carter appeared very nervous and was making furtive movements inside the vehicle.

Mr. Carter allegedly told the officer that he was giving a friend a ride home from work. The officer asked Mr. Carter and an unidentified male passenger to exit the vehicle.

Police then searched the vehicle — the allegedly spotted a white powdery substance on the driver's seat and later located a cigarette package that contained two bags of crystal meth. Police said they also found a syringe and a glass smoking pipe inside the vehicle. Mr. Carter told police the items did not belong to him. The passenger was not charged.
