A Warren man pleaded guilty in federal court last week to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Andre T. Dupree, 26, of Warren (no address given by authorities) was arrested by Newport police this March following a car stop. Mr. Dupree, who was a front seat passenger in the car, was arrested after police discovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a bag containing 50 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
According to records on file with the Rhode Island Judiciary, Mr. Dupree has a lengthy criminal record, including a 2012 conviction for two counts of drug trafficking. He was sentenced to four months in jail, followed by five years of probation.
Mr. Dupree is scheduled to be sentenced on August 31.
