Warren police logs: Multiple panhandling complaints

Monday, Dec. 3

Police were called to Strawberry Lane at 10:29 a.m. for a child custody matter.

Police dispersed an unwanted man from a Harris Avenue address.

Police were called to help restore the peace after getting a call about two-workers who got into an argument at a Child Street business.

A Davis Street resident reported the theft of a lawn ornament.

An anonymous caller complained about people smoking marijuana on Main Street.

Police were called about an alleged assault on Metacom; a caller said a woman was seen smiling a small child repeatedly. Police said the mother was trying to gain control of the child, and there was no problem.

A Strawberry Lane man complained to police after his ex-wife entered his home without consent.

A caller complained about a man stopping traffic on Main and Water streets, asking for money.

A barn on Vernon Street caught fire just after 7 p.m.; fire crews were called at 7:13 p.m. and had it under control by 7:30.

Tuesday, Dec. 4

Police spoke to a person who didn’t pick up after the family dog, during a walk on Child Street, at Ward.

Wednesday, Dec. 5

Christian T. Ferreira, 20, of Bristol, was arrested on a warrant issued from Second Division District Court, after police pulled him over on Main Street just before 3 p.m.

A caller complained about a man, wearing a Santa hat and carrying some type of cardboard cutout, panhandling on Market Street just before noon.

A Good Samaritan turned in a white Apple iPhone he’d found.

A caller from Union Street called and asked for an officer’s help in dealing with an unruly child.

James M. Costa, 52, of 71 Vernon St., was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled him over at the corner of Vernon and Avenue A just after 9 p.m.

A caller complained about a man knocking on her door, asking for money and harassing other tenants in the same building.

Thursday, Dec. 6

A caller from Market Street complained at 6 a.m. about a couple arguing outside.

A woman from Metacom Avenue reported finding fraudulent charges on her bank account.

Friday, Dec. 7

A caller alerted police to the light at Metacom and Seymour, which apparently was glowing green in every direction.

A caller complained that people in a car on Washington Street might be involved in a drug deal. Police reported no narcotics activity.

Phillip Smith, 39, of Providence, was arrested on a Rhode Island Superior Court bench warrant.

Antonio S. DeMatos, 81, of Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, first offense, after an accident on Metacom Avenue at 6 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 8

A caller complained about a car parked across several handicapped spaces on Water Street.

Sunday, Dec. 9

A caller from Child Street complained about loud music just before 2 a.m.

Emani Rajhane Gray, 24, of Jacksonville, Fla., was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense, after police in Barrington alerted Warren authority to a driver headed into town, apparently driving on the wrong side of the road.

A caller reported a structure fire on Mason Street, but could not provide a numerical address. Police checked it out and found nothing amiss.

Monday, Dec. 10

Fire crews extinguished a small gas fire on Detroit Avenue, just before 7 a.m.
