Warren police: Man charged with felony assault on elderly

Monday, May 14

A Norbert Street resident called police after the pet snake got loose.

Police were called to the Kickemuit Middle School for four students who were seen “vaping” at the school bus stop and inside the building. Deputy Warren Police Chief Joseph Loiselle said two boys, age 14 and 15, as well as a girl, 14, were suspended for five days. A fourth student, who was found in possession of an E-cigarette charger, received a lesser suspension.

A Wood Street woman asked police to remove her husband from her home.

A Warren woman found an ATM card and brought it to police.

A Davis Street couple spoke to police after their son was beaten up on the way home from school, but ultimately decided not to file a police report and instead brought it up with school administrators.

Tuesday, May 15

The animal control officer got a call about a groundhog behind a Church Street home, but it was gone when she arrived.

The animal control officer received a complaint regarding squirrels on Child Street. From the log: “ACO reports that the squirrels were in a concession stand. They have been vacated.”

Wednesday, May 16

A Union Street woman told police she was having trouble with her son “wanting to go to school.”

Jade A. Gotauco, 33, of 665 Metacom Ave., was charged with driving after the denial, suspension or revocation of her license, first offense.

A Child Street man told police that his girlfriend left personal items in a friend’s car, and that the friend refused to return them.

Thursday, May 17

A walk-in reported cyber harassment.

The harbormaster assisted a boat owner on the Warren River whose vessel was taking on water.

A Barden Lane woman reported damage to her mailbox.

Carlos H. Mendoza, 55, of 25 Overhill Road, was charged with domestic simple assault/battery and domestic disorderly conduct, after police picked him up at home on a warrant.

Lee Butler, 49, of 28 Barney St., was charged with felony assault on a person over 60 causing bodily injury, and disorderly conduct. Deputy Warren Police Chief Joseph Loiselle said police were called to Federal and Wood streets just before midnight by the victim, a 62-year-old Warren man, who said he had just started walking to Cumberland Farms to get a drink when Mr. Butler approached him in the street and punched him in the face without provocation. The victim ran to his truck, parked nearby, to get a piece of wood to defend himself and told Mr. Butler that he was calling the police. Deputy Chief Loiselle said the victim told police that Mr. Butler backed off only after hearing that the victim was calling the police. Police caught up with Mr. Butler on Wood Street, and noted that he appeared to be intoxicated. Mr. Butler was taken to the ACI follow an arraignment and is being held on a suspended sentence for a previous felony assault charge.

Friday, May 18

The animal control officer assisted a deer that had become entangled in a fence on Main Street. The call came in just before 9 a.m.

A Federal Street resident reported harassment via phone and social media.

Police received three loud music calls on Laurel Lane between 10:03 and 10:53 a.m. Police told the subject of the complaint to quiet down.

Police reviewed videotape and were unable to draw any conclusions after a caller reported that a substitute teacher urinated outdoors during a soccer clinic on Asylum Road. Police said the videotape was inconclusive; school administrators said they would interview students about the incident and report back to police if necessary.

Police received a report that a Kickemuit Middle School student received a threatening text message.

Kids stole several bollard covers from a Market Street address, but the manager of the business from which they were stolen opted not to pursue the matter. The covers turned up in a nearby resident’s yard, and he returned them.

Saturday, May 19

Matthew Ryan Hart Jr., 21, of Portsmouth, was picked up on a warrant for disorderly conduct.

Police were called to Fatima Drive for a couple’s argument.

Edmund C. Large, 63, of 53 Seymour St., was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, after he called police to report an issue with his sister. When they got there, the sister reported that he had assaulted her.

Sunday, May 20

A Terrace Avenue resident asked for police assistance after a raccoon got in the house.

A man found a wallet on the bike path and turned it in to police.

Monday, May 21

A Sisson Street man called for a rescue truck to bring him to detox. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
