Warren police say students are in no danger after officials on Thursday received word that a 15-year-old had threatened to “shoot up” several schools in the Bristol Warren Regional School District.

Lt. Roy Borges said officers were alerted of the alleged threats, which were made more than a week ago on social media. He said officers who investigated found no credible threat, and added that students talking back and forth on social media were speaking more in hypotheticals. In addition, he said, the comments were made online a week ago, though school officials learned of and reported them to the police on Thursday.

“People need to know that the threat was made a week ago,” Lt. Borges said. “It was really taken out” of context.

Police investigated after a student reported to district administrators that another teen who does not attend school in Bristol Warren made an online threat.

“While the police investigation was taking place, we decided to keep our students indoors until we received more details," Superintendent Dr. Mario Andrade wrote in a letter to parents. "At this time, please know that the Warren Police Department has informed us that there was not a credible threat."

In his letter, Dr. Andrade commended the student who reported the possible threat:

"We are very pleased and proud of the student who first reported this information to the administration," he wrote. "As we know, the best ways to ensure safety and security in our buildings are through ongoing communication and positive relationships.
