Westport Rivers Vineyard celebrates harvest, awards for 'amazing' 2014 vintage

From Westport Rivers Vineyard & Winery come good early reviews for this year’s grapes and high praise for wines made with those picked last year.

With the harvest and crush complete, the vineyard’s Bill Russell said he is quite pleased with the young wines.

"I expect this 2015 vintage to be bright and crisp and the aromas are lovely, if a little less adventurous than the 2014’s,” he said.

He invites people to stop in for a smell and taste of “the amazing 2014 vintage … The wines are maturing beautifully and there are  several that have won significant awards. “

For instance, in the recent World Value Wine Challenge (the largest professional tasting of wines under $20 on the planet), “we got amazing recognition for the 2014 vintage, iincluding three wines in the Top Ten in the World listing.”

  • 91 Points - 2014 Pinot Noir Rosé "Aromas of berry pie crust and smoked nuts with a satiny, tangy, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tingling, appealing, medium-length blood orange and pepper finish. A very nice and savory adult rose." Best Buy
  • 91 Points - 2014 Cinco Cães "Bright medium gold color. Delicate, inviting, fruity citrusy aromas of honey crisp apples, yellow lentils, blood orange, and white flowers with an lively, dry-yet-fruity full body and a smooth, intricate, medium-long finish with fruit tannins and no oak."
  • 90 Points - 2014 Farmer's Fizz "Emerald straw color. Bright, fruity aromas of honeyed peaches, apple tart, and straw with a supple, tangy, effervescent, fruity medium body and a smooth, stimulating, medium-length orange, nectarine, and pineapple finish. A very nice fruit sparkler with a nice peachy character." Best Buy
