Gerald J. Mottas, age 69, of Tiverton, passed away Monday July 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Hart) Mottas for 46 years and son of the late John S. and Alice (Correia) Mottas.

Gerald J. Mottas, age 69, of Tiverton, passed away Monday July 25, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Hart) Mottas for 46 years and son of the late John S. and Alice (Correia) Mottas.

Gerald was the head custodian for the Tiverton School Department, retiring in 2009, and previously had worked for the Tiverton Department of Public Works, and had owned Jerry’s Landscaping Service. He was a member of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (ASCME), Council 94, and a parishioner of St. Theresa Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Angela Trenholme (husband Keith) and Keith Mottas; siblings Barbara Oliveira (husband Daniel) of Wolcott, Conn., and Dorothy Camara (husband James) of Tiverton, aunt Dorothy Soares of Fall River, uncle Arthur Mottas of St. Cloud, Fla., grandchildren Corey Mottas and Emersyn Trenholme and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, Saturday at 7:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, St. Theresa’s Church, Tiverton, at 8:45 a.m.. with interment in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton. Calling hours Friday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 N. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
