Letter: Kudos to Portsmouth for opposing Clear River Power Plant

Posted

To the editor:

I applaud the Portsmouth Town Council for joining the overwhelming majority of towns in Rhode Island in expressing opposition to the proposed Clear River Power Plant in Burrillville.

Rhode Island has no need for additional generating capacity. This plant will be a major contributor of pollution in Rhode Island. In addition, towns should have the right to make reasonable decisions to protect the health and safety of their citizens without undue outside interference.

I hope state leaders take note and resist the easy temptation of the big money lobbyists driving the pro-plant campaign.
