LITTLE COMPTON — In a packed school gymnasium last Friday evening, 38 Class of 2016 eighth grade students and one home-schooled student were awarded diplomas at graduation exercises at Wilbur & McMahon School.

A full menu of ceremonial events filled the evening for the graduates, and included a performance by the school chorus, and an address by Hannah Ayotte, a school alumna and recent senior at Portsmouth High School.

Also speaking were Joao Arruda, school principal and Dr. Robert Power, superintendent of Little Compton Schools.

"I was very impressed with how personalized the ceremony was," said Dr. Power, who has been recently named to be the district's superintendent. "They did a slide show of all the kids from when they were young to today. Plus pictures of the Class of 2016 as it progressed through the school. It was all about the kids."

"It was a nice ceremony," Principal Joao Arruda said. "A lot of celebration for an accomplished class, academically and sports-wise."

Wilbur & McMahon School provides education only through the eighth grade, and has 243 students, not counting 13 pre-school age children.
