Robert R. Gagnon, 82, Tiverton

Robert R. Gagnon, retired firefighter, 82, entered into eternal rest on Oct. 10, 2016, with his beloved wife Muriel A. (Levesque) Gagnon whom he married July 30, 1955, by his side.  He resided in Tiverton since 1966 and had a winter home in New Port Richey, Florida, since 2002.  Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Alfred T. Gagnon and the late Regina (Martel) Gagnon Reed of Tiverton. 

Besides his wife of 61 years, he leaves five children: four daughters, Sally A. Gagnon (husband Leonard) of Westport, Cindy L. Gagnon of Fall River, Doreen C. Enos (husband Randall) of Tiverton, Dianne M. Prince (husband Mark) of Fall River; and a son, Robert D. Gagnon (wife Lisa) of Tiverton; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late Pauline Wiley. 

A Korean War veteran he worked for many years as a mechanic for F.N. & Wm. Wheelock of Fall River,and Hemingway Transportation of East Providence.  He was a member of the Tiverton Fire Department of 42 years, serving 17 years as a volunteer and 25 years as a permanent firefighter, retiring 12/31/95.  He was past president of the Tiverton Fire Department Union Local 1703, past president of the RI State Firemen's League, past president and Life Member of the North Tiverton Volunteer Fire Department, past president of the Stone Bridge Volunteer Fire Department, and Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 5392 in Tiverton. 

He attended RI Junior College, experienced as an Emergency Medical Technician and C.P.R. instructor.  At the National Fire Academy, he trained in Hazardous Materials.  He also attended the Community College of RI for Heavy Rescue and Repelling. An open water scuba diver, he attended the University of RI training in Search and Rescue.  Since his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling across the U.S.A. including Alaska and across Canada, and traveled to London and France.  Cruising was great in later years.  He loved to golf and and play cards with family and friends along with spending winters in their Florida home.  Arrangements by the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home 462 Main Rd, Tiverton.  www.almeida-pocasset.com for on-line guest book.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tiverton Fire Dept. Rescue Unit, 85 Main Rd, Tiverton, RI.  Visitation Wednesday, 4-8 p.m..  His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass at Holy Ghost Church.
