Four East Bay schools will be honored Tuesday afternoon for achieving “Commended School” status from the state Department of Education.

Gov. Gina Raimondo and state education leaders will hand out the awards at 4:30 p.m. at Rockwell School in Bristol.

Receiving the award for the fourth time — the only schools commended so many times — are Tiverton’s Fort Barton Elementary School and Bristol’s Rockwell School.

Barrington has two commended schools on the list (only 17 schools were selected statewide) —

Barrington Middle School and Sowams Elementary School.

“Commended Schools maintain the highest commitment to excellent instruction and to the well-being of every child,” Governor Raimondo said. “These schools are helping students build the skills that matter, which will ensure their success in postsecondary education and in challenging careers.”

The entire list:

• Barrington: Barrington Middle School, Sowams Elementary School

• Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy Elementary School 2, Blackstone Valley Prep High School

• Bristol Warren: Rockwell School (4 years commended)
