Virginia “Ginna” Pease Roberts left us at the glorious age of 94 in Portsmouth on August 9, 2016, at Sea La Vie, her cherished waterfront home.

Ginna was born on February 4, 1922, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Alan and Hallie Pease. As a child, Ginna lived in numerous locations throughout the Midwest and New England. Her love of the sea developed in Cape Porpoise, Maine, where she enjoyed boating, fishing, the beach and traditional New England lobsters.

Mrs. Roberts was the widow of Dr. Perry Roberts. They were married in Newport and shared 45 years together in Rhode Island, always near the sea they both treasured. During their retirement years, they spent many winters in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.

Ginna served as an Army WAAC during World War II. She was a member of the Middletown Garden Club and the Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown. She embraced music and sang in several church choirs. She also worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for her husband’s optometry practice in Bristol.

She will be greatly missed by her five children: a son, Bruce (and Holly) Crawford of North Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Ganz (and Tony) of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, Scott Crawford (and Jez) of Houston, Tex.; a son, Peter (and Kim) Roberts of Wakefield; and a daughter, Robyn (and Tom) Riley of Boxford, Mass.

Mrs. Roberts is also survived by nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, as well as her dog and best friend, Gracie. She was predeceased by her brother, Alan, and her sister, Nancy.

Her memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Mrs. Roberts will be reuniting with her husband, Perry, via the scattering of her ashes onto Mt. Hope Bay.

If you wish, please consider making a donation in her memory to: Bering Omega Community Services, PO Box 540517, Houston, TX 77254-0517 (713-341-3762). Bering Omega provides HIV/AIDS health care and support services.

“May the sea you loved so much in life, embrace you for eternity.”
