Barrington drops All Star opener to Riverside, 10-9

Barrington will play Friday in an elimination bracket game

The Barrington Little League 12U Majors All Star team came up one run short, losing 10-9 against Riverside in a District II opener at Sherwood Field in Barrington on Monday night, June 26. 

Barrington held a lead through most of the game, but the neighboring team battled back to score six runs and take the lead in the final inning. 

Harrison Cooley scored Barrington's first run of the game when Andrew Lapointe hit an RBI single. 

Riverside tied the game 1-1 in the third inning, but Cooley provided Barrington with its second lead in the third when he scored a run on a hit by Lapointe to shortstop. In the same inning, Ben Ptaszek blasted a three-run homer to give Barrington a 5-1 lead.

Barrington went up 7-1 in the fourth inning when Cooley singled, Griffin Crain doubled and JT Celico drove them both in with a single. 

Riverside cut the lead to 7-4 with three runs in the fifth, but Barrington responded with two in the fifth. Ptaszek led off with a single, Gabe Tanous followed with a single and Matt Raffa hit a two-run double. 

Barrington carried the 9-4 lead into the sixth inning, but Riverside reeled off six runs in the top of the inning and held on to win 10-9.

With the loss, Barrington drops into the loser's bracket. Barrington will play on Friday against the loser of the Middletown vs. Bristol game, which is scheduled to be played Wednesday in Middletown. 

Other All Stars

Barrington Little League's 10-11 All Stars were scheduled to play their opener on Tuesday against Rumford, while the local 9-10 All Stars are slated to play on Saturday, July 8 against the winner of the Riverside vs. Darlington game. 

Barrington's 8-10 All Stars will play against Tiverton on Friday, July 7. The game will be played in Barrington at 5:45 p.m.
