Donald R. Kidd, Sr., 74, of Portsmouth, R.I., passed away at home with family and friends at his side on Aug. 17, 2018. He was the husband of his “Honey" Ann (Sullivan) Kidd.

Born on Sept. 14, 1943, in Fall River, Mass., Donald was the son of the late Thomas W. Kidd, Jr. and the late Dorothy (McMann) Kidd.

Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964 with much of this time spent in Germany, a country he loved.

Donald’s true passion in life was boating. He was the owner and operator of Pirate Cove Marina in Portsmouth, which was founded by his father in 1967. He became one of the largest J Boat dealers in the company’s history. Donald was an avid sailor/racer winning many races throughout New England.

Ultimately, Donald’s passion turned to power boating, cruising extensively from Northeast Harbor, Maine to Key West, Florida, the Bahamas, and many ports in between.

In retirement, Donald, Ann and Buddy spent winters in Jupiter, Florida and continued to enjoy New England summers.

Besides his wife, Donald is survived by his son, Brandon Kidd and his wife Kristen of Portsmouth; his daughter Doreen Hayston of Ocala, Fla.; his step-daughter Elizabeth Lan of Pawtucket; his sister, Lois Clement and her husband Cap Willey of Portsmouth; and his granddaughters, Autumn Hayston and Meredith Kidd. He also leaves behind his beloved cat and second mate, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by by his son, Donald R. Kidd, Jr. and his brother, Gerald Kidd.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Celebration of His Life Service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
