Driggs: Half-truths,rants call for rejection of council questions

Councilman Edwards’ half-truths, distractions and rants in his recent letter make clear why the TC ballot questions #4-#11 must be rejected. The ballot questions are suspect from the start.

Trying to force us to believe that multitudes of questions were CRC proposals, Edwards fails to mention that the TC captured only 5% of the CRC proposals, all were tweaked to suit TC aims, and that he lead most TC voting which deleted other CRC proposals intended to bring transparency to government actions.

Perhaps worse, Edwards failed to mention the two most contentious TC proposals, both which he moved forward - one giving the TC exclusive control of casino revenue; the second reducing voter options in the FTR. All this, while pretending to support the FTR, even though his desired proposal was to give the TC full budget approval authority, while eliminating the FTR, the Budget Committee, and voter approval.

He has forgotten that a committee proposed the charter change language for the FTR, the TC, Town Solicitor, and townspeople reviewed it and the voters approved it.

Oh, Mr. Edwards — the FTR, as written, was the will of the people. When will you finally start holding them in higher esteem?
