George W. "Chuck" Letendre, 95, lifelong area resident, passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, surrounded by his devoted family. He was the loving husband of Myrtle (Pereira) Letendre.

George was born in Fall River, the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Lamontagne) Letendre. He lived in Fall River until 1958 when he moved to Tiverton with his wife Myrtle.

George attended French Catholic schools throughout his childhood and was a communicant of St. Mathews Church. After moving to Tiverton, he became a communicant of St. Christopher's Church.

George was employed as a master machinist all of his life, and worked for William T. Manning Company, W. W. Leach Company, Inc. and Pratt & Whitney. In 1966 George founded Chuck’s Auto Parts, Inc. which he operated for many years until his retirement. George was a master of anything with a motor and enjoyed building and rebuilding engines, whether it be a lawn mower, boat, fire truck or aircraft. Through his business and so often providing charitable service to many of his customers, "Chuck" developed many longtime friendships.

George enjoyed fishing locally and on the many trips to Woods Hole with his brothers-in-law. He was an avid Red Sox fan and in 2013 was delighted to see them win the World Series ... one more time.

Most of all, George cherished the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughters, Karen M. Rodrigues and her husband Steven of Middletown, and Jane E. Letendre-Piwowarczyk of Fall River; brother, Ronald; sister, Gloria Moon of New Mexico; grandchildren, Catherine B. Piwowarczyk, Jon E. Piwowaczyk Jr. and Michael S. Rodrigues.  He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Norman and Edward Letendre, Cecile Violette and Theresa Croke.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care provided to George by the staff of the South Coast Visiting Nurse Association and Balanced Life Solutions, in particular, Nancy Luongo-Fielding.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 6, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, 1554 Main Rd., Tiverton.

Burial will follow in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton.

The family will receive relatives and friends in the church, prior to the service from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Vincent’s Home (Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative Services), 2425 Highland Ave., Fall River, MA 02720, South Coast Visiting Nurse Association, 1822 N. Main St., Fall River, MA 02720 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 S. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.
