McLaughlin: Don’t buy what some candidates are saying

You would think people become involved in running for town government for higher ideals

((truth, justice, the American way) - not everyone, though. Some do it for power, prestige, personal gain using dirty tricks, misrepresentations, outright lies. Not the type of people we want representing taxpayers.

If candidates have to slander opponents, steal signs, and misrepresent facts to win, they're probably not right for the job. The TTA and others have misrepresented the facts on a number of issues like casino revenue, including sports betting money.

Tiverton had already completed the casino deal before sports betting was approved by the state

The TTA maligned candidate William McLaughlin, as affiliated with Randy LeBeau, devastating to taxpayers or guilty by association, when not one TTA member knows anything about Mr. McLaughlin.

Taxpayers shouldn't just take the word of candidates — if they deceive you now can you trust them later? Voters do your homework! If you're told a candidate is guilty by association, stands for or against something, don't take that persons word for it. Go ask the candidate yourself.

Candidates should address any concerns you have. Get the truth from the horse’s mouth, instead of buying into rhetoric from a jackass.
