Driggs: Vote the Tiverton Taxpayers Association slate

Posted

The TTA endorsed slate which comprised the Charter Review Commission (CRC) fulfilled its pledge to keep the casino gaming revenue within the budget process.

Not so the Town Council (TC).

Councilwoman Patricia Hilton proposed only three possible uses for the casino revenue: debt elimination/reduction, capital improvements, infrastructure, with any excess going to Town Council general fund slush account. But never can it be used in the town’s operation budget. Translation: the Town Council has made a major power grab for all the casino gaming revenue, totally removing it from control of taxpayer’s in the budgeting process..

Councilman Randy LeBeau’s proposed ordinance does just that. Remember LeBeau’s famous words during the TC ordinance planning phase: we can’t let the taxpayer’s get their “grubby little hands” [on the casino revenue].

Since the TC, for the first time ever, has blocked from the November 6 ballot all proposals of your duly elected CRC, the TTA has endorsed slates for TC and BC who pledge to make sure voters get to vote on the CRC proposals. Pay attention to the TTA red, white and blue signage and cards, a brand you can trust to fight for Tiverton Taxpayers’ best interests.

Vote for the TTA endorsed candidates for TC and BC.

Reject all TC charter change proposals.
