Tiverton’s Alexandra McDonald won a bronze medal in Division II Women’s Foil at a regional fencing competition held St. Patrick’s Day weekend at Boston Fencing Club in Brighton, Mass.  The tournament was an important event drawing athletes from New England and the North Atlantic region, offering the possibility of national points to successful finishers.  Division II restricts participants to those holding a national rating of C or under.  Ratings are granted by the United States Fencing Association and range from A at the highest level to E.  Alex presently holds a national rating of C.  She trains at the Rhode Island Fencing Academy & Club (RIFAC) under the guidance of RIFAC owner Alex Ripa and the coaching staff including Jeff Mooney, Matt Duquette, and Jimmy Whittle.
