Warren is known not just for its restaurants, but its art and music. On Friday night, one of the town’s most beloved acts will celebrate the release of a new album while giving a nod to Warren’s impressive artistic community.

The Atwater Donnelly Trio will throw a CD release party for their “The World is Old Tonight” release at 7 p.m. at the Historic Warren Armory at 11 Jefferson St. Tickets are $15,and that includes pastries donated by Pastiche.

“The World is Old Tonight” is the 13th recording by Warren residents Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly, and includes a third member, Cathy Clasper-Torch. The three worked nearly four years to record the CD, and its Celtic and American folk tunes are marked by guitar, mountain dulcimer, banjo, Irish whistle, harmonica, foot percussion, djembe, uilleann pipes, piano, bass, fiddle, cello, Chinese erhu and vocals. Atwater, Donnelly and Clasper-Torch perform on some of the instruments, and guests perform on others.

“Cathy began playing with us in 2003,” said Atwater. “She is now a staple. She truly adds a third dimension.”

Friday’s CD release party will not just be a concert, but a joint venture with The Collaborative, an artists’ collaborative at xx Main St. Uriah Donnelly, The Collaborative’s executive director, plays piano on the album, and executive board member Adam Tracy and member artist Adam Tracy created the original artwork and design for the CD. Also, Janet Moscarello contributed photography.

In recent months the Collaborative has started offering workshops and art classes, and Uriah said Atwater Donnelly’s goals, and those of the Collaborative, jibe perfectly: “It’s about spreading the art,” said Uriah. He said Collaborative artists’ works will be shown at Friday evening’s concert.
