Charles H. “Chuck” Alfred, 90, of Warren, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary J. ( Smith) Alfred.

Chuck was born in Plymouth, MA, a son of the late Henry and Belmira “Bella” (Rezendes) Alfred.

He was the Warren Town Clerk for more than 25 years before retiring.

Mr. Alfred was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. A graduate of Providence College, he also held a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Rhode Island.

He had been a Warren resident since 1952, coming from Washington D.C., and previously lived in Bristol. A parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Church, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Warren Democratic Town Committee.

Mr. Alfred leaves his children, Stephen A. Alfred of Wakefield, Mark S. Alfred of Bellingham, MA., John C. Alfred of Warren, Linda Geisser of Attleboro, MA, and Leslie McGrath of Bradford, MA. He was the grandfather of 14 and the great-grandfather of nine. He was the father of the late William H. “Biddy” Alfred.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
