John R. Swift, 81, Warren

John R. Swift “Jack,” 81, of Warren, passed away on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016 at home. Born in Preston, England, he was the son of the late George and Edith (Ryding). He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Sharples) Swift, having been married for 60 years.

He has lived in Warren for the last 59 years, previously living in England. Jack was a semi-pro soccer player in England and was a former member of the Fall River Soccer Club. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and was proud to say he played in all the golf courses used for the British Open. He was a former member of the Bristol County Elks Club. He worked as an mechanical engineer at G W Dahl in Bristol for 35 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his beloved children, Michael and his wife Jane Swift of Barrington, Neil and his wife Natalie Swift of Warren, Lesley Swift and her partner Joseph Robinson of Warren, and Dawn Perry and her husband Dean of Cranston. He had 12 grandchildren, Rick, Chris (wife Kim), Kyle (fiancé Emily), Maya (husband DJ), Stacy, Michaela, Nathan, Luke, Margaret, Grace, Tommy and Matthew. He has a sister, Dorothy Jolley of England.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where the family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2-4 p.m. Funeral on Sunday, Nov. 20 from the funeral home at 10 a.m.; memorial service at noon at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, 1439 West Main Road, Middletown.
