Rose Ellen (Gervais) Swanson, 93, of Warren, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the Grace Barker Nursing Center. Born in Warren, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Cecilia (Bartley) Gervais.

Mrs. Swanson was the devoted wife of the late Leroy (Roy) F. Swanson for 60 years. They made their home in Warren, retiring to Cape Cod for many happy years before returning to Rhode Island. They also enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling the Eastern coast from Canada to Florida. As a widow, Rose enjoyed living at East Bay Manor in East Providence, R.I., where she enjoyed an active social life for eight years.

A parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Parish, Rose was a devoted homemaker. She was involved in the Girl Scouts and enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and square dancing with her husband.

Rose is survived by her children, Leroy (Lee) F. Swanson and his wife Kathryn of North Scituate, RI and Cynthia R. Lombardi and her husband Butch of Warren. She was the grandmother of Steve and Mary Beth Swanson, Nick and Katie Lombardi and Todd and Lynn Perkins; the great-grandmother of Carly, Kate and Drew Swanson, William and Andrew Lombardi, Heather Furtado and Richard Perkins; and great-great-grandmother of Roman D. Furtado. She was the grandmother of the late Cheryl Swanson of Huntington Beach, CA.

Rose is survived by a brother, John Gervais of Warren; and her sisters,Doris Meiggs of Bristol, Lillian Russo of Warren, Shirley Rebello of New Hampshire and Eleanor Guerreiro of Seekonk, MA. She was the sister of the late Henry, Charles, Raymond, James and Robert Gervais, Cecelia Bullock and Ruth Figureid.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial follows in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
