Alice R. (Sprecher) Funk, 84, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at home, after a short illness.

Born in Madison, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of the John C. Sprecher and Bertha (Pankow) Sprecher.

She was the loving mother of Katherine Howard and her husband William of Swansea and the late Peter and Robert Funk. She was the mother-in-law of Leslie Funk.

She leaves two grandsons, Robert W. Funk, who lived with her, and Justin Rita. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She had been a Warren resident since 1963. She worked for over 50 years at the Warren Animal Hospital as a veterinarian technician. Alice was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Barrington and a member of their Altar Guild.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 School House Road, Warren. Funeral services are Wednesday at 9 am from the funeral home, with a 10 am Service in St. James Lutheran Church, 49 Middle Highway, Barrington RI.

Burial will be in South Burial Ground Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
