Barrington police charged Alejandro W. Flanagan, 26, of Warren, with disorderly conduct on Friday, Oct. 26.

Police received a call from a Barrington resident after she received a threatening text message. The text was from someone who was threatening to cut her throat.

The woman did not recognize the phone number and asked who had written the text and if it was the wrong number. The suspect never replied.

Police called the man and spoke to him for a few minutes. Then the man hung up. Police called back a few times and the suspect eventually picked up. The man, later identified as Mr. Flanagan, said he had been at a party and his friends were using his phone.

Police said Mr. Flanagan later admitted to sending out the text to the Barrington woman. Police said Mr. Flanagan claimed to have been in a relationship with the Barrington woman; she denied that, although she said she had been friends with him back in school.

Mr. Flanagan allegedly told police he wanted to scare the Barrington woman but had no intentions of harming her.
