Eagles top Huskies, 5-3, in JP Medeiros Jr. Memorial hockey game

East Bay girls tie LaSalle, 1-1

Barrington topped Mt. Hope 5-3 in the 16th annual JP Medeiros Jr. Memorial Cup hockey game on Tuesday night. The game is in memory of John Paul Medeiros Jr., a standout hockey player and former member of the Mt. Hope hockey team from 1995-99. He died in a tragic car accident while attending Quinnipiac University. He was 20 years-old.
Barrington now holds an 11-5 advantage in the series.
Barrington seniors Dominic Robidoux and Jonathan Fay each scored a pair of goals and Nick Bernardo scored a goal for the Eagles. Jared Rego, Ryan Cordeiro and Keegan Hanley scored for the Huskies.
The Eagles quickly got on the scoreboard when Bernardo beat Huskies goaltender Jack Serbst on a pass from Charles Ames, 4:34 into the first period. Fay then found the back of the net at 12:02, assisted by Robidoux and Matt Spears. Seconds later, Robidoux took the ensuing face-off and skated up the middle splitting the defenders and beat Serbst with a nasty wrist shot to make it 3-0.
The Huskies got one back 4:31 into the second period when Rego beat Eagles goaltender Jacob Andriozzi on an assist from Keegan Hanley.
The Eagles made it 5-1 on back to back goals by Robidoux and Fay 12 minutes into the second period.
The Huskies came out flying and got back into the game in the third period. Cordeiro scored on an assist from John Dolan 2:24 into the third period. Hanley scored 12 minutes later on an assist by David Benevides and Cordeiro.

East Bay girls hockey team tie’s LaSalle 1-1
Junior defenseman Madelyn Cox scored late in the third period to give the East Bay hockey team a 1-1 tie against rival LaSalle in a non-league game at Portsmouth Abbey on Tuesday night.
Cox gained the puck at the blue line and took matters into her own hands as she skated around a LaSalle forward and defender and stuffed the puck by goaltender Asia Porter.
“She is one of our go to players a great leader on the team,” said head coach Allison Faria. The East Bay offense blistered Porter with 22 shots as the Eagles goaltender Ellee Kopecky made 15 saves.
“She has been very solid as a sophomore,” said the coach.
“The girls have shown a lot of improvement from last year. We have put in a lot of hard work and are working towards the championship,” she said. The Eagles are 5-1-1 overall and play on Friday at 6 p.m. against Cranston/EG co-op at Thayer Arena.
