The Warren Town Council gave thanks on behalf of a grateful town last week to Al Galinelli, who will retire at the end of the month after serving 29 years as Warren’s fire chief. In front of a crowd of dozens of volunteer fire fighters, council president Joseph Depasquale gave Chief Galinelli a bouquet of flowers and thanked him from the podium, saying Warren is losing one of its best. After that, and before Chief Galinelli said a few words of thanks,

Mr. Depasquale read a resolution written for the occasion:
WHEREAS, Alexander R. Galinelli was 18 years old when he joined Engine 1, Central Fire Company, in April 1965. The following year, during the Vietnam War, he joined the Navy, where he served on a river patrol boat and later a destroyer. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1968, he continued his career with the Warren Volunteer Fire Department, rising through the ranks as a lieutenant, then assistant chief, then Volunteer Fire Chief in 1988. In 1995, he became the town’s first full time fire chief.
WHEREAS, for Al Galinelli the position of fire chief has been a way of life, and Warren and its townspeople his family. For more than 50 years, he has battled blazes, from minor kitchen mishaps to massive mill infernos, and answered thousands of rescue calls, treating each and every patient with dignity and compassion. As Warren’s Emergency Management leader and the town’s Number One First Responder, Al has braved hurricanes and blizzards, confronting the elements while direction operations alongside his team. During his 22 years as chief, he has provided rescue and fire fighting training to hundreds of men and women, hosted decades of Fire Prevention programs, introduced generations of children to Smoky the Bear, delivered babies, inspected homes, headed marine rescues, attended meetings and marched in countless parades. He has overseen budgets and equipment, distributed Thanksgiving baskets, organized decades of Firemen’s Memorial Sundays, peeled bushels of onions for Fire Station clambakes and pitched in during all manner of town wide events.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the members of the Town Council and on behalf of the residents of Warren, extend our honor, gratitude and appreciation to Alexander R. Galinelli for his unmatched contributions to the community and do hereby congratulate him on his retirement.
