Parishioners enjoy high tea at church fundraiser

About 60 parishioners and friends gathered for an afternoon filled with finger sandwiches, a variety of teas, and delectable pastries as the Holy Rosary Sodality of St. Elizabeth’s Church held its second Tea Party Saturday in the church auditorium this week.

“This was the second year we’ve done this, and it was another great success,” said committee member Marie Mauricio.

Last year’s inaugural event was a sellout, and this year’s event was nearly as popular, said Holy Rosary Sodality past president and longtime parishioner Natalie Ferreira. “This has turned out to be a real special occasion, like our annual Card Party and Bazaar, which are two of our biggest fundraisers,” she said.

During the course of the afternoon, those in attendance (many of whom sported some inventive and colorful tea party hats) had a chance to sit back and relax, while enjoying some delicious food and friendly conversation.

Sodality Society president Pauline Ramos said she was happy to see everyone having such a great time.

“This is a nice afternoon for the ladies,” she said. “This is a nice break for them. I want them to feel special today.”

The program opened with a special prayer, and, later in the day, featured some special gifts that were presented to lucky winners, including a special hat-judging contest. Winners included Lisa Faria, Dorothy Champigny, Charlene Andrade and Evelyn Alves. Judges were Augusta Costa, Cidalia Rodrigues and Mary Martin.

Committee members who acted as servers during the course of the afternoon included Ginette Amaral, Roni Bowlin, Natalie Ferreira, Dottie Wilson, Angela Cabral, Marie Cottrell, Pauline Ramos, Eileen Borges, Marie Mauricio, Cathy da Rosa and Pat Silvia.
