Hugh Cole letter: Adopt, don't buy, a canine friend

Posted

Hugh Cole students were recently assigned an opinion/argument letter on a topic of their choice, and the results were sent to the Warren Times. This is one of the letters:

To Whom It May Concern,
In my opinion I think that adopting a puppy is better than buying one because it does not cost as much, the dogs and puppies need homes and there are so many age choices. Have you ever thought about adopting a dog?  Well if you said no then after this writing you will for sure.
My first reason why adopting a dog is better than buying one is because it doesn't cost as much.  If you adopt it cost $50-$200 but if you buy it cost $500-$1000.On a site called reasons to adopt a pet it says that ‘’adopting cost ranges from $50 to $200.’’  The text goes on to say ‘’Buying a pet can easily cost $500 to $1000 or more.’’ In addition before you get the puppy you adopted it is already groomed and most of the medical needs are done so that also saves money.  I should now because I adopted a puppy and it was already groomed.
My next reason why adopting a puppy is better than buying one is because the dogs and puppys need homes.  If you the dogs the shelter will euthanize them which means put them down.a quote from google says ‘’each year 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized.’’  Also the dogs are not in the most comfortable place because the dogs are almost always in cages.  But if you adopt them they will be in a nice warm environment with loving caring owners.  When I adopted my puppy I gave it a home a nice fluffy bed, nice collars and loving owners.
Another reason why adopting a puppy is better than buying one is because there are so many age choices.  On a website called reasons to adopt a pet it says ‘’If you adopt, you get your choice of any age.’’  When I was picking out a puppy with my family we had to choose from puppy or adult and there was about at least 500 dogs per age.  Research shows that if you are older than an older dog will be better for you and if you are younger than you might want a younger dog that has more energy and likes to run around.
So after this go and adopt a dog,you will feel like a pot of gold, because your saving money, giving a dog a home and you got what you wanted with either a puppy or dog.
Sincerely,
Savannah Murray
