Two years ago you sent me to the Statehouse to be a new voice for Barrington and Warren. In that time I have followed through on my promises and worked hard on the issues that affect everyday Rhode Islanders.
I have fought for and passed laws to protect our communities from gun violence. I have fought for and passed legislation to repair our crumbling school infrastructure. I have fought for and passed legislation to protect our children with improved background checks for people who work with children.
Just as importantly, I have fought against the culture of complacency at the Statehouse by demanding accountability from state officials working on the UHIP project (which is intended to serve our most vulnerable Rhode Islanders) and the managers at the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF).
Finally, in the next term, I will fight to make the House of Representatives more accountable to the people by demanding changes that will reduce the power of the Speaker of the House. In the next term I will not support any candidate for Speaker of the House who does not embrace these democratic reforms. And, under no circumstances, will I vote for Nicholas Mattiello as Speaker of the House.
I’m so grateful for the trust you have placed in me these past two years. It has been an honor to serve. I am again asking for your vote on Nov. 6 to continue the fight and to make Rhode Island a better place to live for all of us.
Jason Knight
