The memory of a local woman who spent her life helping others will live on in a new $5,000 scholarship now being offered to Mt. Hope High School students.

When she died in 2015 at age 75, Jane Creel was retired from a 30-year career at the Grace Barker Nursing Home. Born in Warren and graduate of Warren High School , the Rehoboth resident worked the 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. shift at Grace Barker and over the years helped care for countless neighbors, friends and others in need of care. Remembering her work ethic, loyalty, dedication and selflessness, her five children decided after her passing to establish the scholarship to honor her. It is available to any Mt. Hope graduating senior who has been accepted into and committed to a post-secondary nursing program.

Any student wishing to apply for the scholarship can pick up an application in the Mt. Hope High School guidance office.
