To the editor:
Our town officials are still blind to the law that requires ADA issues, I addressed months back to what in my opinion was a waste of tax dollars, when the town completed repairs to Cole Street. The repair included placing a sidewalk to the right side of Cole Street, which runs parallel to the bike path. As I requested to know the cost, this was kept silent until it was reveled to me this week at $57,000. Add injury to insult, there is no ADA-required wheelchair cutout anywhere along the right side of this sidewalk in which I brought to the attention of officials. Now there will be an additional cost of $9,000 to rip up the curbing and replace the ADA-required cutout which should have been done in the first place.
This is not the first time our officials failed to comply with this issue, as the sidewalks that were repaired on Franklin Street last year too, did not have the cutouts, and had to be ripped up and replaced. As our tax dollars are being wasted here, I am shaking my head as why does our town officials not know what these requirements are and how many times must they be told.
My civil suite that was logged is not even cold by two months and again I am at odds with our officials for not complying with the ADA law. In the eyes of town officials I am the pain in the ass and the bad guy! Again, I ask Who is at the helm here?
