Question: State question number 1 on the November ballot will ask voters to approve a $250 million bond for school repairs and construction. How will you vote on that question, and why?

Senate, District 32

• David Aucoin — "Most agree our schools are in rough shape and some need new construction. The drawback is that taxes are already so burdensome for the average homeowner and especially for retirees. I will vote to approve the bond. Cuts will have to be made elsewhere."

• Cindy Coyne — "Yes. Every child deserves to attend a school that is warm, safe, dry and equipped for 21st century learning. Approving this bond will allow every community to increase state aid to supplement the cost of school building projects. Let’s approve Question 1 to invest in our children, our state’s future."

House, District 67

• Daryl Gould — "I will vote no. While it may seem well intended, these bonds (loans) will unfairly tax districts, such as Barrington, which have been good stewards of taxpayer money and maintained their school infrastructure. Simply put, Barrington taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for improvements in districts that have not maintained theirs."

• Jason Knight — "I will vote yes. Our kids cannot learn if their schools are broken. The money from the bond will drastically improve the learning environment for kids across the entire state. Additionally, Barrington will receive substantially more money from the state to cover the cost of the new middle school."

House, District 66

• Rhonda Holmes — "My vote is yes. Schools across the state are in disrepair and we need to address this. It will also help the construction industry. The real question will be to make sure the money is spent fairly and not just invested into certain areas which have been poorly maintained."

• Liana Cassar — "I will vote yes on Question 1 to support the school infrastructure bond. The success of our students, faculty and staff is limited in the current neglected and substandard buildings around the state. The bond is an investment in the health of our children and the wellbeing of our communities."
