Manuel “Phil” Arruda, 75, of Bristol, passed away on June 27 at RI Hospital. He was the husband of Sandrea (Cordeiro) Arruda for 53 years.
Born in Sao Miguel, Acores, he was the son of the late Manuel R. Arruda and Rosalina L. (Roias) Arruda. He was the father of Kristine Snow and her husband Christopher, and grandfather of Jonathan Snow who was his “Pride and Joy.” He was the uncle of Edward and David Raposa, Vivian Macedo, Susan Guadalupe, Brenda Coffey and Sandrea Speroni. He was the brother of the late Mary O. Bettencourt.
He was a labor foreman for Sterling Engineering and Kelley Construction for 33 years before retiring. He was a member of Local Laborers Union Local 73 and Operating Engineers Local 57.
Known by many as Uncle Phil. He enjoyed golfing as a member of Montaup Country Club. He loved gardening, fishing on his boat “Peg Leg,” time in Florida and traveling with his family.
His funeral services will be held Monday, 9 a.m., from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood St. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Bristol. Calling hours are Sunday 3-7 p.m.
