Joseph Sgro, the 63-year-old owner of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, was killed Thursday when his new Outerlimits SB 50 powerboat boat flipped in the Florida Keys.
Mr. Sgro is the second owner of the company to die in one of the firms boats. Previous owner Mike Fiore was killed in August, 2014.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said that Mr. Sgro, of Bellmore, Long Island, and three other men from New York were aboard the speedboat when the accident happened. They were said to be headed to a powerboat event in the Key West area where the boat was to be displayed.
The Bristol company issued a statement saying that "the entire Outerlimits family mourns the loss of our beloved president, Joseph Sgro. Joe is survived by his loving wife Eileen, their beautiful 5 children and soon to be 3 grandchildren. Anyone who knew Joe loved him and his family. His larger than life personality and his generosity to his family and friends was unparalleled."
