Richard (Dick) Carter, 79, formerly of Warren R.I., youngest son of Francis and Rose (Lavallee) Carter, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida. He was born on September 17, 1939 in Warren, R.I. He is survived by his loving spouse, Dorothy Carter; his brother Russell and wife Phyllis, brother Roger and wife Charlene. He also leaves behind his children: Chris Carter and wife Julie; Terry, Becky Tust and husband Michael; Ricky, as well as his grandchildren: Gregory, Brittany, Jeremy and Nicole.
Richard served his country for four years as a Marine. He worked in sales for a number of years and was a natural born salesman. He became self-employed in a successful seat repair business in his fifties. Richard spent the majority of his life living in Florida delighting in the sunny, hot weather. He enjoyed boating, traveling to the Bahamas, watching old movies, playing with his trains, and spending time with his family.
Although his illness limited his activities in the past several years, he never lost his gift of talking. His love of life remained vibrant like his personality. He was never one to hold grudges and loved his wife and family immensely. His beloved dog, Brandy, was also a steady companion and brought much joy and comfort into his life.
At Richard’s request and to honor his wishes, his body will be cremated and his remains scattered at sea. A Memorial service will be held on March 17th at 2:00 P.M. on the Lady Stuart I at 555 N.E. Ocean Blvd., Hutchinson Island, Florida for a burial at sea.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Richard Carter’s behalf to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 S.E. Indian Street, Stuart, Florida 34997.
