Stephen Butera, 67, Bristol

Talented musician had a heart of gold

Posted

Stephen Butera, 67, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at his longtime home in Bristol. He was the beloved husband of Felecia (Freiday) Butera.

Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Vincent and Emma (Matthews) Butera, and brother to the late Douglas Butera.

He attended East Providence High School and the Rhode Island School of Music. He was a manager in furniture retail for many years and later became a valued member of Butera Building LLC, a family business.

Stephen was an accomplished drummer who had mastered many other instruments, such as the piano and guitar. With his drumsticks, he traveled the Hilton Hotel circuit performing at numerous musical venues. He was an avid boater who enjoyed cruising the bay, and loved his muscle cars and motorcycles. Not only was he extremely intelligent, handsome and fun-loving, he had a true heart of gold and a kind, gentle soul. He will be missed by many, but especially the family that he fiercely loved, took care of and always protected.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving brother, David Butera and his wife Sheila of Barrington; his nephews, David Butera Jr. and his wife Kim of Bristol, and Bryan Butera of Barrington; and his niece, Brittany Butera of Barrington.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Bristol. Visiting hours are Sunday, 4 to 7 PM. For directions and tributes, see www.wilbur-romano.com.
