Warren police have charged a Uber driver with second degree sexual assault, after he allegedly touched an unconscious woman inappropriately while driving her to her home in Warren late last month.
Hermenegildo Benitez Montes, 41, of Pawtucket, was arrested on a Warren police warrant last Friday, Aug. 25. He was arraigned
Warren Deputy Chief Roy Borges said a West Street woman and a male companion used the online ride service on Friday, Aug. 17 to get a lift from Newport to Middletown, and then to Warren. After Mr. Montes dropped off the male passenger in Middletown and continued to Warren to drop off the woman, she told police she fell asleep but was awoken in front of her house by the driver, who had his hand up her dress. The woman screamed at the driver, jumped out of the car and called police.
A representative from Uber was not immediately available Monday to say whether Mr. Montes is still employed by the online ride service.
