The Warren Fire Department will mark Fire Prevention Day this Saturday, Oct. 13, with a full slate of activities at Burr’s Hill Park. It’s all free and runs from 1 to 3 p.m.

There will be games and prizes, pizza, hot dogs and popcorns, a classic car and fire truck show, blood pressure checks and plenty to do for the kids. It’s all free.

Fire Chief James Sousa said the theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Family Day is “Look, Listen, Learn. Be aware — fire can happen anywhere.” The idea is to educate residents about the essential steps they can take to reduce the likelihood of a fire, and how to get out when one occurs. Looking for trouble spots or likely fire-prone areas, listening for a smoke alarm and learning the best way out of a home when a fire starts is crucial, he said. It’s also a good idea to change batteries on your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

the Warren Police Department will hand out fingerprint kits that residents can use with their children, and then turn back in.

In addition, there will be a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. — as usual, it will be a friendly competition to see which town’s fire department, Warren or Bristol, can claim more pints donated. You can “pledge” your blood donation to either department.
