Warren police: Traffic stop leads to more than a pound of pot

Police invested a "suspicious" object on Benefit Street. It turned out to be garbage.
A threats complaint was lodged by a Child Street resident.
Scott Anthony Lopes, 29, of New Bedford, was charged with possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, and driving in possession of controlled substances, after police pulled him over on Child Street, by Long Lane, at 2:16 p.m. Police said that after approaching Mr. Lopes' car, Patrolman Connor Bemis noticed a strong smell of marijuana. Upon searching the car, he allegedly found three bags containing a collective pound and a quarter of marijuana.
A caller reported the abuse of a dog on Metacom Avenue.
Police said the caller, the owner's girlfriend, reported that the dog had been starved and beaten for the past four years. Warren animal control quarantined the dog at the Warren Animal Shelter after the owner was charged with domestic assault, and while there was observed to be in good health.
A woman reported that an employee of a downtown group home been embezzling money. The case in under investigation by police detecitives.
A woman told police that her son was being bullied at the Kickemuit Middle School. Police said the matter was handled at the school.
Tuesday, April 2
Police got a call about a panhandler harassing bank customers on Main Street. The man was gone upon police arrival.
Emergency crews tended to a patient who severed a finger on Main Street. The man, a construction worker at the Tourister development, lost his finger on the job.
Jason Reed, 44, of Fall River, was arrested on a warrant for property damage and attempted larceny under $1,500.
Wednesday, April 3
Police were called to Main Street just after midnight to disperse a disorderly man. A search for the man turned up nothing.
A caller reported two juveniles on bikes crossing Metacom Avenue traffic without protective gear.
Thursday, April 4
Tevin R. Jones, 24, of 375 Metacom Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, BAC .1 to .15, after police pulled him over on Metacom Avenue at 12:13 a.m.
A caller told police that a man parked his car at Burrs Hill and then started "meandering" up Water Street on foot. The caller said the person might be drunk, but police spoke to him and he told them he'd parked his car there to move it out of the way of street sweepers scheduled to be in his area that day.
Police turned two Kickemuit Middle School students over to their parents after getting into a fight on the bus.
A Kickemuit Middle School student, 13, was charged with possession of marijuana, one ounce or less after officials allegedly found him in possession of a marijuana "blunt," police said.
A teacher at Hugh Cole Elementary contacted police after a student allegedly yanked her right arm and slapped her right arm. She was not injured but wanted the incident documented, police said.
A Beechwood Court resident complained about a neighbor's open burn.
A Union Street resident complained that a neighbor was harassing "them."
An Asselin Street woman complained that kids keep trespassing on her property while trying to retrieve a basketball which continually goes over her fence. Police spoke to the juveniles' parent.
Friday, April 5
Gary Pike, 22, of Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense, BAC unknown, after police pulled him over on Metacom Avenue just before 2 a.m.
A Sisson Street woman told police her son was assaulted when walking home from school.
A caller reported a fight on Child Street.
Saturday, April 6
An anonymous caller reported a man and woman arguing on Market Street at 4:34 a.m.
Police were called to Fatima Drive for an argument between a mother and daughter.
A Greenlawn Avenue resident reported the theft of firearms. He later realized he'd just misplaced them.
Makailah Haskell, 30, of 175 Fatima Drive, was charged with domestic simple assault/battery and domestic disorderly conduct, after police were called to Fatima Drive at 1:38 p.m. for a domestic call.
A caller reported a man in a green truck conducting a drug deal on Main Street. The truck was gone on police arrival.
A caller complained about a motorcycle parked in a Metacom Avenue handicapped space.
A walk-in gave police a cell phone found outside a Main Street establishment.
Sunday, April 7
Police were asked to disperse an intoxicated woman from a South Grove Avenue home.
A Company Street resident complained about a neighbor's open burn.
Paula Alexandra Palumbo, 19, of 16 Park St., was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, after police responded to an accident on Market Street.
A caller from Federal Street complained about an unknown person knocking on the door. It turned out to be a food delivery driver who'd gotten his address wrong.
Monday, April 8
Loose cows made a break for it and ended up on Barton Avenue.
