Wharf Tavern closes Christmas Eve

Renovations to take several months

Posted

Diners hoping to head to the Wharf Tavern for its annual New Year’s celebration are out of luck this year. The restaurant closed its doors for renovations on Christmas Eve, and won’t re-open for at least several months.

The day after Christmas, workers at the waterfront restaurant were busy packing up boxes of liquor and supplies and throwing chairs, tables and bar stools in a large Dumpster that had been dropped near the main entrance. Inside, an employee said interior and exterior renovations will keep the restaurant closed into at least the early spring. She said the restaurant should be open again by summer. Until then, patrons with questions, or who have gift certificates or had scheduled a function there, can call 401-289-2524 for more information.

Whether the restaurant’s current employees will have jobs when that happens is another question. Earlier this month, an employee told the Warren Times that the restaurant’s ownership will require employees to re-apply for their positions once the restaurant opens back up.
