Gas prices in Rhode Island rose by 2 cents this week, averaging $2.25 a gallon across the state, according to AAA Northeast.

The $2.25 price is eight cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $2.33. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 21 cents lower at $2.04.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 20 cents, from a low of $2.15 to a high of $2.35, the motor club announced. Mid-grade gas averaged $2.55 ($2.37-$2.69); premium averaged $2.72 ($2.55-$2.85); diesel averaged $2.53 ($2.47-$2.59).
