Wild becomes new executive director for Good Neighbors group

EAST PROVIDENCE — Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry and Day Shelter which operates out of St. Brendan’s Church in Riverside recently announced Ric Wild as the non-profit organization’s new Executive Director.
Mr. Wild will be responsible for the day to day operations of the kitchen which served over 29,000 meals last year, the dining room and a weekly food pantry. He will also manage the business of the organization.
Mr. Wild joins Good Neighbors from Hope & Main based in Warren, Rhode Island’s first culinary incubator that helps local entrepreneurs and food related businesses grow, connect with consumers and engage the community. As the Member Services Coordinator, Mr. Wild was the first point of contact. guided applicants through the on boarding process, helped them access resources, facilitated educational opportunities and fostered a nurturing and supportive environment.
According to a statement issued by the board, Mr. Wild will bring a “fresh perspective and approach to the mission at Good Neighbors,” which is "To provide nourishing, tasty and attractive meals. free hygiene products from donations, provide a comfortable setting where companionship can be fostered and provide opportunities to encourage a spirit of goodwill in a warm, pleasant environment.”
Among its offerings, Good Neighbors serves a hot breakfast and lunch to patrons Monday through Friday. Last year, over 29,000 meals were served. In addition, the food pantry, which is open each Wednesday, welcomed over 200 families last month.
Good Neighbors also participates in the “Project Fresh” initiative two Wednesdays a month. It’s like a Farmer’s Market for the Food Pantry patron, who can choose from a colorful array of fresh produce items and are provided with a healthy recipe and all ingredients needed to prepare a meal like “Blue Apron.”

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
