An 18-year-old East Providence man faces multiple charges from both Bristol and Warren police after triggering a three-town, high-speed chase early last Tuesday, April 2.
Everett James was driving a 2002 Subaru at 12:20 a.m. when he allegedly failed to adhere to a stop sign at the intersection of High Street and Bayview Avenue in Bristol. Police said he initially pulled over, but when a Bristol patrolman approached his car, allegedly sped away on Bayview.
The officer followed in pursuit, but Mr. James allegedly drove from Bayview to Perry Street, Sherry Avenue and Chestnut Street, before connecting to Metacom Avenue and continuing north at a high rate of speed.
Bristol elected to stop the pursuit as Mr. James entered Warren, but Warren found the vehicle and continued to pursue. He allegedly continued through Warren onto Old Warren Road in Swansea, before losing control and rolling the car over onto a front yard.
He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and later taken into custody by Warren police officers. Mr. James was brought back to the Warren station, where he was charged by both Bristol and Warren. Bristol Police charged him with eluding an officer in high-speed pursuit, and with operating without a license. Warren police charged him with reckless driving, eluding a police officer with a motor vehicle in a high speed pursuit, and driving without or on an expired license.
He was expected to appear in District Court on Wednesday, April 3.
