Nathalie F. Palmer 82, wife of the late Raymond A. Palmer Jr. of Westport, and Port St. Lucie, Florida, died at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Born in New Bedford, Mass. she was the daughter of Manuel Perry Alves and Rose Antino Alves.

After graduating from Bridgewater State College in 1956, she went on to receive a master’s degree in school psychology from Boston University. For many years thereafter, she was the director of pupil personnel in the New Bedford school system. In this role, she was a strong advocate for children with special needs.

Nathalie was a member of the Westport Acoaxet Club, serving a term as president and later board member. She and her late husband Ray were also golfing members of the Country Club of New Bedford.

As a little girl she played the clarinet and spent most of her time with her older sister and many cousins. Nathalie was proud of both her Portuguese and Italian heritage. She was the first in her family to complete graduate school and always raised the bar for her son, nieces, nephews and her grandchildren to achieve and succeed in school.

She is survived by her loving sister, Dorothy A. Ciborowski and spouse Chester Ciborowski of Sandwich, Mass.; two nieces, Carol C. Harper of Austin, Tex., and Jean C. Fahey of Yarmouth Port, Mass.; two nephews, Michael S. Ciborowski of North Easton, Mass. and James C. Ciborowski of Sandwich, Mass; and step children: Cheryl Palmer of New York, M. Kathleen Palmer of Florida, Raymond III of Pennsylvania, Pamela Wayne of New York and Alan Palmer of Massachusetts.  She was predeceased by her son, Lawrence L. Foley.

There will be a church service on Monday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Westport. All are welcome. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport.
